Department Overview:
The Americas Division (“AD”) was established in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, New York Branch) (“SMTBNY”) to perform corporate functions and supervise U.S. entities. Established under the AD are the “Global Banking Unit (“GBU”), Americas Division” and “Global Market Unit (“GMU”), Americas Division” which performs business functions.
Investor Services and Business Solution Department (“ISB”)
The Investor Services and Business Solution Department (“ISB”) is responsible for (i) distribution, agency services, and developing new business opportunities for syndicated loan transactions and (ii) developing and executing business and operation plans and managing day-to-day operations and administrative matters in GBU.
Fund Finance Department (“FFD)
The Fund Finance Department (“FFD”) is responsible for providing financing and other service-based solutions to customers that primarily consist of alternative investment funds, fund managers and/or corporate clients. These solutions include, but are not limited to, subscription finance, liquidity facilities, and FX solutions, collectively “Fund Finance”, in addition to Asset Backed Commercial Paper (ABCP) solutions.
Your Role Overview:
The Analyst will support the Bank’s Asset Backed Commercial Paper (“ABCP”) Conduit Program by managing day-to-day borrower relationships, underwriting structured credit transactions, and coordinating transaction execution from origination through closing. Working closely with senior bankers, the Analyst will assist in evaluating financing opportunities, preparing credit approval materials, negotiating transaction terms, coordinating closings, and monitoring an assigned portfolio of borrowers. The role provides significant exposure to structured finance, relationship management, and transaction execution.
Your Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned borrowers participating in the Bank’s ABCP Conduit Program.
- Support senior bankers in originating, structuring, and executing new financing transactions.
- Analyze financing opportunities through financial, collateral, cash flow, and structural credit analysis.
- Prepare credit applications and supporting materials for internal credit approval.
- Coordinate the internal approval process with Credit, Legal, Operations, Treasury, and other stakeholders.
- Assist in negotiating transaction terms and documentation with borrowers and external counterparties.
- Coordinate transaction closings and ensure timely completion of all execution requirements.
- Monitor existing transactions, borrower performance, collateral quality, covenant compliance, and overall portfolio risk.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing borrower relationships and support new business development efforts.
- Stay current on market developments impacting structured finance and the ABCP
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Your Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Economics or equivalent with 3+ years related experience.
- Bilingual oral and written skills on a business level in both English and Japanese.
- Good knowledge of finance and basic accounting.
- Good knowledge of commonly used research resources, including Bloomberg, EDGAR, and rating agencies.
- Basic knowledge of corporate finance transactions and loan markets.
- Advanced in Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Access), and some modeling capabilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
